I’ve waited in countless rooms with people on their worst days. In my years as a hospital chaplain, I had a front-row seat to some of the most horrific things people face every day. It was my job to look for light in these dark places and bear witness to it. I believed this before, but it became abundantly clear during those years that there is a sacred presence (I would call that presence God) in the waiting. God skips the useless platitudes and stays with us, patiently working overtime to make Love’s presence known. And as much as no one ever wants to wait in these rooms, there is a gift in the waiting because the divine waits with us. Is that too much for the bridge and a verse of a 4-minute song? Probably. But I felt like I had to write it anyway.

It's hard to let things go.
Responding to a prompt to write about “Something that is coming to an end” I kept coming back to the image of a yard sale. All those objects that once mattered, now spread out on folding tables with price tags, waiting for strangers to carry them away. There's something about endings that looks like junk on a front lawn. And there's something about letting go that feels like both relief and grief at the same time. This song is a confession that some goodbyes are harder than they need to be, even when we know they have to happen.
Let me know what you think.

This is an ever-growing playlist sharing the messy middle of songwriting—rough drafts, voice memos, and songs still finding their shape. No polish, no pressure. Just the honest, unraveling process of creating. Some songs will never be more than a moment. Others develop into something more lasting. There's room for it all. Enjoy.

I made a decision early on not to chase Spotify streams or fight for playlist placement. What I want is smaller. I’m not looking for an audience; I’m looking for a conversation. Your voice matters as much as mine does, and I'd love to listen and hold space for one another. If you want to connect with this growing community,
